Unexpected arrival of chicks! Two weeks early!
25 BOXED chicks in the trunk of my wife's car.
Angel watches over the chicks for me.
"Here are the chicks you need to guard, Angel."
"Where should we put the chicks? No problem. I will just put some shelving together for a pen."
Impromptu pen for chicks. Metal shelving tied with plastic ties. All place on tarp.
50 chicks may go through 10 bags of feed I am told.
Gravity feeder
Water trough
A layer of bedding that will need to be changed DAILY.
Nice layer of bedding coming up.
The chicks have no difficulty finding the food and water.
Time to hook up a heat lamp.
Heat lamp is attached by wire to board on top of saw horses.
Hungry little chicks. This feed comes with everything they need, grit included.
Now it's time for a nap and it doesn't take them long to find the heat lamp.
Cuddly warm:)
I add a tarp to keep the pen warm and cozy.
Angel standing guard.
Angel is still helping me guard the chicks.
Angel and I are guarding the chicks.
|
Note the hose in the waterer to keep the little buggers dry.
Wow, good work! And they are very cute =) I often house-sit for friends here that have about 15 chickens, so I recognize the gravity feeder and water thing. Used the exact same ones.
